Obesity and the new era of anti-obesity drugs

Obesity specialist, Dr Devalia, joins us to discuss the new horizons in the management of this epidemic, from lifestyle changes to bariatric surgery to anti-obesity drugs.

Mrs Devalia is a leading London-based consultant bariatric surgeon, practicing at the Cleveland Clinic and Portland Place Outpatient Centre. She has been a consultant surgeon at the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2011. Her areas of expertise include bariatric  surgery, treatment for gallstones, acid reflux and hernia procedures. Mrs Devalia is also an expert on Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy), a medication used for pharmalogical weight loss. She has a special clinical interest in surgery for severe obesity, gastrointestinal surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. When not treating patients, Mrs Devalia carries out research into a wide range of bariatric treatments, and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
