Precancer: the next frontier in cancer research
Sarah will discuss her recent work exploring the biology of precancer and designing off-the-shelf vaccines to prevent it.
Prof Sarah Blagden
Professor of Experimental Oncology, University of Oxford
Sarah is a medical oncologist at the University of Oxford, where she leads Oxford’s Oncology Clinical Trials Office (OCTO), the UK’s first trials unit dedicated to Precision-Prevention and Early Detection studies. She has over 30 years’ experience as a cancer doctor and researcher, combining patient care with laboratory and clinical research to improve how cancer is prevented, detected, and treated. She leads the GO-Precise initiative, a collaboration between Oxford and industry partners to develop off-the-shelf cancer prevention vaccines, including LungVax, which is due to enter clinical testing in June 2026. She is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Prenostics Ltd, a company developing the first circulating biomarkers of precancer. Sarah was recently featured in the Cancer Research UK–commissioned Channel 4 documentary Cancer Detectives.
