Championing economic growth
The current political and economic climate makes it more important than ever that businesses, whatever their size, speak with one voice – and that government is listening. Now both major parties see growth and the role of business in that as key and integral. How does Brian and the CBI walk that fine line of dealing with the major parties and holding the Government to account?
Brian started his career at Xerox, before 10 years at IBM. He then ran Dell’s operations in UK and Northern Europe, then to T-Mobile where he launched 3G and the iPhone, followed by Amazon where he was UK CEO responsible for building-up its UK operations. Since leaving Amazon, Brian has undertaken numerous portfolio roles, and is currently Chair of Trainline PLC, Lead NED on the Board of the Ministry of Defence, and NED on the Board of Abrdn PLC. He has also been on the Boards of Celtic FC PLC, the BBC, AO PLC, The Advisory Board of Huawei, and was Chair of ASOS PLC as well as being on the board of the BBC, Abrdn PLC. Brian grew up in Glasgow, 1 of 8 children in a working class family in a council house, and never forgets his roots.
