With nations at war, economies disrupted and geopolitical tensions running high, where are the pathways out of violence, instability and risk? David will provide an inside look at how discreet private mediators go beyond the limits of traditional diplomacy to end armed conflicts by building trust, dialogue and the foundations of peace and stability.

David has been HD’s Executive Director since 2011. He previously worked for the United Nations, including in Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti and Timor Leste, as acting head of government. He authored the UN Secretary-General’s landmark report on the Fall of Srebrenica and currently serves on the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation. He was also Chair of the World Economic Forum Conflict Prevention Council and Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Affairs (SAIS). He has a PhD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, a Master’s from Harvard and a graduate diploma from Beijing University.
