Kurt joins us to reflect on his time as Deputy Secretary of State and Indo-Pacific Coordinator, including his work on AUKUS, the Quad and the Camp David trilateral. Kurt is Chairman and Co-Founder of The Asia Group, and most recently served as the 22nd US Deputy Secretary of State. He previously served as the inaugural Indo-Pacific Coordinator at the National Security Council (2021–2024), where he was President Biden’s principal Indo-Pacific policy advisor, strengthening regional alliances, shaping US-China and US-India relations, and driving the AUKUS security partnership. From 2009 to 2013, as Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, he was the key architect of the “Pivot to Asia.” He is the author or editor of 10 books including The Pivot: The Future of American Statecraft in Asia.
