Prof Mughal’s esteemed medical career started in Manchester in 1977 before moving to London as Head of Upper Gastro Intestinal Services at University College in 2010. Over the past 10 years he has increasingly specialised in complex oesophagogastric surgery and improving outcomes for oesophagogastric cancer. From 2018 to 2020 he served as Chief Medical Officer for the North Central and North East London Cancer Alliance. He was a founding member of NICE and has held numerous positions at a national level. He has served on the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Intercollegiate Speciality Board of General Surgeons.
