Rachel Reeves MP
The Everyday Economy
Rachel has declared that the Labour Party will be on the side of British businesses, and pledged to introduce new policies to allow us to buy, make and sell more in Britain.
Rachel will outline her strategy to get the economy firing on all cylinders. This includes a focus on those parts of the everyday economy such as social care and retail that employ millions of workers, but too often pay low wages, employ workers in precarious situations, and suffer from low levels of productivity.
Rachel has been Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer since May 2021, and has served as Member of Parliament for Leeds West since 2010. She has previously served as Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office; Chair of the House of Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee and as Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. Before entering Parliament, she worked as an economist for HBOS and the Bank of England. She is the author of Women of Westminster: The MPs Who Changed Politics, and Alice in Westminster: The Political Life of Alice Bacon.
