How should Britain respond to the rise of China?

The China Research Group was set up by a group of Conservative MPs to promote debate and fresh thinking about how Britain should respond to the rise of China. Tom will be telling us more about their work and outlining both the challenges and the opportunities presented by China both now and in the future.

Tom was elected as Member of Parliament for Tonbridge, Edenbridge and Malling in 2015 and has been Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee since July 2017.

Prior to his election to Parliament, Tom served as military assistant and principal adviser to the Chief of the Defence Staff having previously served as an army officer in both Afghanistan and Iraq for which he was awarded the MBE.

A fluent Arab speaker, he started his career as a journalist in Beirut where he set up a PR agency before returning to the UK as a management consultant then energy analyst.
